| Letter from the President… Two weeks down!
Welcome back, everyone! I hope you had a nice long holiday weekend. We have made it through the first 2 weeks of craziness and now hopefully things are smoothing out and you and your kids are settling in at this point.
We had a full house at the Welcome Back Coffee and General PTA Meeting on the 28th. It is such a blessing to have so many parents who are involved and committed to their children and education.
The PTA has many fun events planned throughout the year and will need many volunteers to help. Please make sure to check out our online calendar at Rennerpta.org and sign up to volunteer. We have many spots still available for front office and copies, school store and more. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Sara Burnett President, Renner PTA 2017-2018

PTA COMMUNITY OUTREACH - HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF DRIVE As we all have seen and heard, our fellow Texans in the Houston area are in great need of our help due to Hurricane Harvey. Renner PTA in conjunction with the Renner Staff will be coordinating, gathering and transporting supplies to several foundations. We have a former Renner teacher who lives in the Houston area. Her neighborhood/ town has been directly impacted by the flooding. We have a U-Haul set up to send specific cleaning/repair supplies to her neighborhood. A lot of the families have small children so we are also looking to help to provide baby supplies (see the list below). Baby Products: - Diapers
 - Baby wipes
- Formula
- Bottles
- Baby food
Repair Supplies: - Heavy Duty trash bags
- Gloves (leather & latex)
- Masks (N-95)
- Fans
- Tarps
- Bleach
- Plastic storage totes
- Buckets
- Work lights/ Flashlights
- Drywall saws
- Cap nails (for tarps)
- Dehumidifiers
- Safety glasses
We will be collecting supplies throughout the month of September in the rotunda and as the supplies arrive, we will divide the supplies between the various foundations. Please see the attached file for an accumulative list of needed supplies. Hurricane Harvey Relief Drive
 PTA Membership Challenge
Did you know Renner has about 1200 students, and 100% of the faculty belong to PTA, but only 50% of Renner families have joined?! Renner teachers are that committed to your children, and if they are, shouldn’t you be too? We challenge YOU to be a part of your child’s school comm-YOU-nity and join today on the Renner Membership Toolkit (MTK) under rennerpta.membershiptoolkit.com. Membership costs only $25 for a 2-adult, or $20 for a single adult membership for the entire school year. - Each school has its own PTA, and joining one of your children’s schools does NOT mean you have joined them all. For example, joining at your elementary school does not automatically mean you have joined your middle or high school PTA,
- Being a member keeps you informed. It does NOT mean you are volunteering for anything unless you choose to do so.
- Joining means you will be included in the student directory (but you may opt out if you choose), and the directory is accessible under the MTK app easily downloaded for FREE on your smartphone.
Potential members frequently ask, “What does PTA really do, and what does my money pay for?†Here are some examples of all the things your $20-25 pays for: - social events for the kids like outdoor movie nights w/food trucks, pre-game tailgate parties, and other fun events throughout the year,
- fundraisers like the Color Run, the Book Fair, and Packet Pick-Up day (saving you money on school supplies bought in bulk),
- PE apparel, music tshirts, and other spirit wear from design to finished items for sale,
- Teacher grants for improvements to the school not paid for by the district,
- Hosting teacher appreciation lunches that aren’t paid for by your tax dollars,
- Guest speakers and experts brought into the school to discuss current topics of interest such as technology, and internet safety for the kids and parents.

Right now, we ONLY need 100 more families to join to get to last year’s total number of members, and to win the “Early Bird Achievement Award. If you have any questions, contact Karen Ricketts, Renner V.P. - Membership at membership@rennerpta.org.
For EducationIt’s easy to find Box Tops on hundreds of products you know and love. Instead of throwing away the box, clip Box Tops from your favorite products and turn them in to Renner today! Each coupon is worth 10 cents and it adds up fast. Our goal is to raise $1,000. We would like to buy prizes for students who win S.T.R.O.N.G. tickets (ask your child what this is--they should know) and for teachers (just for being the superstars they are). Make sure the coupon has not expired, put them in a sandwich baggie, and have your child drop them in the collection box outside the front office in the rotunda. It’s an easy, no-cost way to support Renner students and teachers! Lori Rough, ESL teacher Renner Middle School, room 902 469-752-5867
Teachers Treats! Treating the entire Renner staff to a festive spread of yumminess at the end of each 9 week grading period is a great (and easy) opportunity to say thank you for all of their hard work engaging with and teaching our children!
A breakfast & lunch will be provided 4 times this school year to our wonderful staff and we cannot do this without your help!
Please register your interest in helping provide homemade or store brought goodies via Toolkit on the PTA website. You will be asked to login.
Please mark your calendars, the first Teacher Treat" day is October 20th and the rest of the dates are still being finalized but will be announced very soon. The coordinators will be emailing out a Signup Genius with a list of items needed to all of those who signed up.
Don't miss out on this convenient way to serve the staff by letting us know you are interested as soon as possible! Any questions, please contact treats@rennerpta.org
